Module 2 of Web 2 Online Blogging
After creating a Twitter account it gives me some new ideas to use in the classroom. If all the children had twitter accounts linked to mine then I could request reminders, send out ideas for them to help them with their learning as well as post suggested educational web sites or You tube videos that they could view to enhance their learning. They could also post responses to questions relevant to topics that we are discussing after school hours in case they thought of a response then rather during class time. It could provide feedback for me to use in reports.

Hi Carol
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to see you on Twitter. I'm following you and I look forward to reading about all your adventures!
I think both your blogs are great! I can see all the work you have put into them. I don't consider myself an expert at all but I am happy to share what I have learnt so far.
I love to use PhotoPeach for inserting photos. It's a free and easy to use website. You can import photos and it organises them into a slideshow with your choice of music. It becomes a video and you just embed it into your blog. If this interests you, I can talk you through it.
Also, like I tweeted you, a new theme on your Global 2 blog might be a good way to change the appearance of your blog. There are some really great themes which offer more options than the basic themes. You could have a header images, two columns for widgets, different backgrounds. It's just a matter of customising it to suit you.
I realise that blogging can be time consuming so I try to incorporate it into my work program as much as possible. Every week, I will use 20 mins of a Shared/Modelled Writing session to write a post with the class. We usually reflect on some of the learning that we have done over the week and always end our post with a question. I usually schedule this session just before we go for our lesson in the Computer Lab. This has worked well because as soon as we go into the Lab, I encourage the students to leave a comment to our post and then we go onto our ICT focus.
I also try to include links to fun websites that I have introduced in class. This encourages the students to go to the blog at home to use the links.
I hope this helps in some way.
I look forward to reading more on your blogs, especially your posts for the Web 2.0 Course. You're a few modules ahead of me so it's good to read about your experiences before I try it.
Jill :)
Thanks Jill for your comments. Your suggestions sound good. I will look at Photo Peach, is that the same as Picasa. When I get more confident with my blog I will probably change it to make headers and extra columns for widgets. I need simple at the moment but will work on trying new effects. How you use it sounds really good. I will try doing something similar. We are preparing for a Showcase to display learning so I'm currently learning how to do I movies and Photo story for windows with the children. When I'm more confident and finished the show case I will begin to add them into the Blog. I will try to add new fun links to websites to encourage the students to visit the blog more.
